DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team defeated Gwynedd Mercy at home, 10-8, in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The Aggies snapped a two-game losing skid and improved to an even 3-3, while the Griffins dropped to 1-5.
It didn't take long for DVU to get on the board as Daniel Aulisi found Cole Graeff for his sixth goal on the season just over two minutes in. Gwynedd Mercy scored three minutes later, but George Evanick snapped the tie with an unassisted goal with just 17 seconds left in the first quarter the give the Aggies a 2-1 lead they would never relinquish.
The Green and Gold started to pull away in the second quarter with four goals. Senior Jack Sprinkle was responsible for three of the four tallies with two goals and an assist. As part of the run, the Aggies rattled off three goals in under three minutes, with Sprinkle finding Brett Zigeler for his fifth goal on the year. Chris Marren found the Aggies leading scorer Daniel Aulisi to give DelVal a 5-2 cushion, and Ziegler capped off the half with an assist to Sprinkle.
Justin Carney and Jason Eide each registered a goal in the second quarter for Gwynedd who still trailed 6-3 at the half.
In the second half, it took DelVal just 52 seconds to get on the board as Sprinkle found Aulisi for his second goal on the game. Aulisi later found Chris Marren who bounced a shot passed the keeper to make it 8-4, DelVal. Moments later, Sprinkle took advantage of a Griffins penalty to net his third of the game on a man-up opportunity.
For GMU it was all Eide in the third quarter scoring all three goals with assists from Ryan Wilkins and Ian Kish.
Marren tacked on another early in the fourth, and the Aggies held on for the win. Gwynedd threatened with two goals in the final minute of regulation, but it was not enough as DelVal earned the 10-8 win.
Sprinkle finished with a team-high five points on three goals and two assists and Aulisi registered two goals and two helpers for four points. Ryley Savering picked up his first win of the year playing all four quarters with 18 saves for the Aggies. Sean Mylod led the defense with seven groundballs and two caused turnovers.
The Aggies will be back in action Monday, March 20 as they make-up a game with Kean University. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.
