DOYLESTOWN (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team opened up their season at home against the Albright Lions, but were unable to keep the Lions at bay, as the Aggies fell 22-4.
Albright (1-1) got out to a 3-0 lead over the first eight minutes as three different Lions found the back of the net. Ashley Birmingham got the Aggies on the board with her first goal with 5:26 left in the quarter. Albright tacked on three more goals, the final with nine seconds left in the first quarter. DelVal (0-1) would win the draw control after the Lions' sixth goal and Birmingham would race downfield and find the back of the net with two seconds left, making the score 6-2 heading into the second quarter.
The Lions kept their foot on the gas to start the second quarter, scoring four goals in the first 3:18 to extend their lead to 10-2. Susan Rawding notched her first goal of the season with 10:33 left in the half off the second assist from Samantha Charles to trim the lead to 10-3. The Lions would score four goals over the final 5:24 to hold a 14-3 lead heading into halftime.
After Albright grew their lead to 18-3, Birmingham notched her third goal of the game off an assist from Kyra McKeegan. The Lions would tack on four more goals in the fourth.
Lauren China had a game-high six goals while Kyra Lycett added four. In total, ten Lions found the back of the net.
Ashley Birmingham scored a hat-trick for Delaware Valley.
The Aggies will be back in action Saturday, February 25th at 12PM against Lancaster Bible.
