DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team outscored visiting Lancaster Bible College, 11-1, in the second half and rolled to an 18-7 non-conference victory led by a record-breaking performance from junior Kyra McKeegan.
McKeegan played a part in 12 of the Aggies 18 goals as she dished out a career-high 10 assists and scored twice for 12 points. Her 12 points was another career-best mark, while the 10 assists set a new single-game program record. The previous record was five, a mark the McKeegan tied a season ago.
The win improved DelVal to 1-1 on the young season, while the Chargers fell to 0-2.
McKeegan found Kiara Haywood-Rivera twice in a span of 49 seconds, on near identical plays in front of the net, to give the Aggies an early 2-0 lead. However, over the next 13:35 of regulation, Lancaster Bible outscored the home team, 4-1 to take a 4-3 lead with 11:26 left in the first half. Katelynn Perrotta scored twice in that run.
The Aggies responded with a 4-1 run over the next 10 minutes behind a pair of goals from Susan Rawding, Haywood-Rivera's third of the game, and Allison Grzembski's first of the year. Right before the halftime horn, Perrota netted her third of the game on a nice individual effort off the draw. DelVal took a 7-6 lead into the break.
The Chargers were down to eight field players for much of the second half, and the Aggies took advantage. After trading goals to start the third quarter, DelVal ripped off 10 straight to run away the 11-point victory. The Aggie defense only allowed five shots on goal during that stretch.
In addition to McKeegan's 12 points, Rawding scored a career-high seven goals with two assists for nine points. She added four draw controls. Haywood-Rivera reached a career-best five goals and five points and Ashley Birmingham led the team with five draw controls and four caused turnovers, and added two goals and an assist for three points. Grzembski finished with three caused turnovers and five ground balls with a goal, Katie Grover picked up her first assists of the season, and Viola Anderson finished with a goal and an assist for two points.
In net, Caroline Berg made eight saves for the Aggies while Kyleigh Zenewicz stopped nine at the other end for the Chargers.
Perrotta finished with four goals, three ground balls and two caused turnovers, and Lindsey Weaver added two goals, one assist, three draw controls and two ground balls.
DelVal will play its third-straight home game next Saturday against Gwynedd Mercy at 1 p.m.
