Track And Field Competes At Penn State In Final Tune-Up Before MAC Championships

STATE COLLEGE (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Penn State Tune-up in its final preparation for next week's Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships.

First-year brothers James and John Mahana got DelVal started with strong showings in the men's weight throw. With only one other division III school represented in the field, John and James took sixth and eighth place, respectively, out of 13. John reached 13.25 meters and James followed close behind at 12.83 meters.

Matt O'Dunlami followed with an eighth place showing in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 51.47 seconds. First-year Matthew Skikus reached a personal-best in the 3,000-meter with a 9:49.74 showing while Carter Owen finished one spot ahead with a time of 9:48.05.

Fellow rookie Caleb Messenger earned 20th out of 27 with a 2:01.91 mark in the men's 800-meter run.

For the women, junior Kelly Hastings finished 11th in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 1:06.43 while sophomore Kait Jones reached 11.87 meters in the women's weight throw, and Alyssa Blackmon ran a 5 minute, 45.77 second mile.

 The two-day MAC Championship tournament begins Friday at Alvernia University.
