Frederick Md. - Delaware Valley men's basketball dropped their first contest of the 2023-24 season after a slow start to Wilson College, taking part in the Hood Tip-Off Tournament.
Rasheem Dearry sank the first bucket for the Aggies two minutes in after the Phoenix took an early advantage. DelVal continued to miss threes throughout the first half with Wilson building a 20-8 lead at the halfway mark. Dearry hit on another three, followed by a Godly Marc layup. Wilson ended the first twenty with eight straight points leaving the Aggies scoreless in the final five minutes, going into the locker room up 36-14.
Jordan Gombs helped the Aggies on a 12-2 opening minutes of the second half with a three-pointer. Zoelin Pair hit a layup and went to the line for one which was followed by a good Dearry layup helping DelVal inch back at the 14-minute mark. At 10:26 Marc drained a layup that got his team within two points of Wilson before the Phoenix built back a 52-45 advantage with seven minutes left. Later, down by seven in a final couple of minutes, Colin Macadams, Dearry, and Jake McGinty crawled the Aggies back to within one point. Wilson's Garib sank a free throw and DelVal missed a buzzer-beater three to wrap up the game.

DelVal turned it around in the second. After going 5-30 from the field in the first 20 minutes, they came back out to shoot 14-31 in the second half.
Following the 61-59 loss, the Aggies fell to 0-1 in the young season. DelVal takes on Lehman College tomorrow, Saturday, November 11, at 1:00 p.m. at Hood College.
