Doylestown, Pa. - Delaware Valley women's soccer responded with two kick answers to escape with a tie in a MAC Freedom battle against King's College on Saturday afternoon.
Most of the first half was controlled by the Monarchs, having the Aggies hemmed in their own zone. In the 24th minute, both teams forced the keepers to make big saves as Viola Anderson made a nice diving stop on Brooke Finlay. The first 45 minutes ended with the Aggies trailing in shots 7-4 while Anderson notched four stops.
Action picked up in the second half just five minutes in Marley Bramsway nearly put DelVal on top but her shot rang off the post. The Monarchs would take the lead at 61:31 with a goal by Leah Sankey assisted by Finlay. The Aggies wasted no time tying the game up as Savannah Rennix got a pass from Jess Williamson to make it 1-1 just nine seconds later. Later with the teams battling, Marabelle Burkert was dished a yellow card in the 78th minute. Six minutes later, the Monarchs recaptured their advantage when Mikaela Majcher beat a jumping Anderson. But, with time ticking down, Sydney Dispoto won a battle and passed the ball to Bramsway, who beat the goalie from 30 yards out, scoring her third of the season, to tie the game with 100 seconds left.
DelVal escaped with the tie and moved to 6-5-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the MAC Freedom. The ladies are back in action on Tuesday, October 10 at Widener University for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
