Women’s Volleyball Suffers Loss at Albright

READING, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team kept a close battle with Albright, ultimately dropping all three sets with identical 25-22 finishes to lose the match 3-0.

A service ace and kill from Gretta Schneider paired with an Olivia Deffendall kill put the Aggies up 3-1 early on. A 5-0 response from the Lions put them in a lead they would hold up until a 5-0 run from DelVal comprised of two kills and two Schneider services aces to give the Aggies a single-point lead, 15-14. The 5-0 trend continued with Albright regaining the lead 19-15. Despite holding the 7-6 edge through the rest of the set, the Aggies came up short, 25-22.

An early 5-0 run followed up shortly with a 4-0 spurt from Albright put the Aggies in a nine-point deficit, 14-5. A kill from Victoria Tucker shifted the momentum to start DelVal on a huge 8-0 run to sit just a single-point from tying the game, 14-13. The Aggies remained close with the Lions pulling away by no more than four points, 22-18, before a 4-1 run from DelVal made it a one-point game yet again, 23-22. Albright secured the final two points to win the set, 25-22.

The third set saw the Aggies in the lead to start with the 5-2 edge over the Lions thanks to back-to-back Schneider kills and a Grace Kane service ace. Shortly after another Schneider kill set off another 5-0 spurt to give DelVal the six-point advantage, 10-4. DelVal continued to maintain its lead only allowing the Lions to cut it to four points before a 5-1 run from Albright brought the deficit to one, 20-19. The Lions put up six more points while holding the Aggies to just two to win the set, 25-22.

Schneider led the offense for DelVal with 10 kills in the match. She was joined by Tucker and Kane from back court with three service aces apiece. Grace Wilson led the defensive efforts with a team-high 20 digs.

The Aggies will conclude their season Thursday, Nov. 2 at Arcadia in a 7 p.m. matchup.
