GLENSIDE, Pa., - The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team ended their 2023 campaign with a 3-0 setback to Arcadia University. The Knights won in three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-8, and 25-17.

A 3-0 run to start the game gave the Knights an early lead over the Aggies. The DelVal offense worked to close the gap with a pair of kills from
Olivia Deffendall and one from
Grace Kane, cutting the deficit to two, to 5-3. A couple of errors helped the Knights build up a six-point lead, 9-3. Â The Aggies and the Knights would continue to battle back and forth until the Knights went on a 5-0 run to make it 20-10. DelVal answered back with a 5-0 run that consisted of a pair of kills from Deffendall and a pair of aces from
Gretta Schneider to bring the gap down to five, 20-15. Ultimately, Arcadia held onto a 5-1 advantage through the rest of the set to win, 25-16.

The Knights would start set two with a 2-0 run that would be answered with a kill from Deffendall, 2-1. The teams went back-and-forth in the second set before the Knights answered with a 11-0 run to take a 16-4. lead The Aggies answered with a kill from
Victoria Tucker, but the deficit was too much, as the Knights took set two, 25-8.

In similar fashion as the first sets, Arcadia started with a 2-0 run answered by the Aggies with a kill from
Hannah Brennan, 2-1. The Knights followed up with a 4-0 run to bring the score to 7-2. A pair of Deffendall kills and a trio of Knight errors, started DelVal on a 5-0 run to tie the game, 7-7. Arcadia immediately answered with a 4-0 run to regain its lead, 12-8. The Aggies began a 3-0 run with a Deffendall kill and a couple of errors in an attempt to close the gap, 16-13. The Knights held onto the lead the rest of the game closing the set at 25-17.

Deffendall led the offense in the match with a team-high 10 kills. Schneider led from the back court with two service aces. At the net, Helverson led the team with two blocks. Wilson assisted in the defensive efforts recording ten digs.

The loss brings the Aggies' final 2023 record to 11-14 and 1-6 in the MAC Freedom Conference.
