WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team went 0-3 against Lycoming before facing Keuka in five total sets, dropping the match 3-2 at the Lycoming Tri-Match on Saturday.
MATCH ONE: LYCOMING 3, DELVAL 0
A series of kills and attack errors put Lycoming in an early 6-3 lead over the Aggies. A kill from
Olivia Deffendall cut the deficit to two, but the Warriors mounted a 3-0 run to pull ahead by five, 9-4. Deffendall struck again to set DelVel up for a 4-0 run to make it a one-point game, 9-8. A 7-1 spurt from the Warriors built back up a seven-point lead, 17-10, but this time the DelVal offense was ready on the attack with an 8-2 run comprised of a service ace and four kills to make it a one-point game yet again, 19-18. The Aggies fell behind by two points, 23-21, putting together a 3-0 run to take the lead, 24-23. The teams continued to trade points and the lead with the Warriors finishing the set off on a 3-0 run to take it 33-31.
The Warriors offense came out hot pulling ahead by 12-5 to start the second set. An attack error awarded the Aggies a point to cut the deficit to half, 12-6, but Lycoming quickly brought it back up to 15-6. After a few back and forth points, the Warriors put up four-straight points to make it an 11-point game, 21-10. The Warriors held the 4-3 edge through the rest of the set for the 25-13 win.
DelVal's offense picked up the momentum putting up a 6-0 run to start the set. The Aggies allowed two points from the Warriors while also putting up two of their own to maintain the lead and make it an 8-2 game. Lycoming tried to close the gap with a 4-0 run, but a 4-3 advantage for DelVal followed allowing the squad to maintain a lead, 12-9. The momentum shifted in favor of the Warriors with a 7-2 run to take a 16-14 lead over DelVal. The Aggies offense slowed with the Warriors holding the 9-5 edge for the 25-19 win to sweep the match.
Grace Kane led the attack for DelVal with nine kills. Kane also led on the defensive side of the ball with a team-high 14 digs. Deffendall led from back court with three service aces.
MATCH TWO: KEUKA 3, DELVAL 2
DelVal fell to an early 5-1 deficit to start the first set before rallying to take a 13-10 lead over the Wolves. The Aggies continued to maintain a narrow lead over Keuka before a 5-1 run from the wolves tied it up 22-22. The lead changed three more times with back-to-back kills from Kane and Deffendall ending the set in favor of the Aggies 27-25.
The Aggies jumped out to a 7-2 lead to start the second set allowing just three-straight from the Wolves before putting together a 4-0 spurt for the 11-5 lead. Keuka managed to come within two points of tying, 14-12, but a kill from Deffendall paired with a
Samantha Wilton service ace and an attack error from the Wolves put the Aggies back up by five, 17-12. Keuka held a short 4-2 edge to bring the deficit to three, 19-16, but DelVal held the 6-3 advantage through the rest of the set to take it 25-19.
DelVal's offense slowed through the final three sets of the game falling behind quickly 5-1 to start the third set. DelVal mounted a 5-1 run to tie the score, 9-9, but Keuka answered the call with another 5-1 spurt to take the definitive lead, 14-10. The Aggies remained in chase putting up only seven more points in the set falling to the Wolves 25-17. The fourth set was an even affair to start but an 8-1 run from the Wolves put the win out of reach for the Aggies creating a seven-point deficit, 13-4. DelVal saw a 4-0 and 3-0 run with two kills and a service ace, but fell short dropping the set 25-17.
Keuka took a 6-3 lead over the Aggies to start the fifth and final set. DelVal mounted a comeback with a 6-1 run thanks to two kills from Deffendall and an impressive three consecutive service aces from
Victoria Tucker making it a 9-7 game. The teams traded 3-points apiece leaving the Aggies still in the lead, 12-10. The Wolves offense put together a 5-1 run to end the set, 15-13.
Deffendall led the attack with 18 kills from 49 total attacks. Kane ended the game with double-digit kills recording 11 while also leading the defense with 19 digs. Tucker led from back court with four service aces.
Grace Wilson played a critical part on defense with 18 digs.
The Aggies return to action at home in James Work Gymnasium on Wednesday, Oct. 18 for a MAC Freedom matchup against Lebanon Valley at 7 p.m.
