Aggies fall To Alvernia at Home

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team struggled to maintain the advantage over Alvernia dropping the contest 3-0 on Thursday night.

The Aggies started off hot with a 5-0 run before a service error ended the streak and put Alvernia on the board. A kill from the Golden Wolves ensued before DelVal set off on a 3-2 run to make a four-point gap, 8-4. A 9-1 response put Alvernia ahead 13-9. Victoria Tucker came up with the kill for the Aggies to stop the run and cut the deficit to three, 13-10. The Golden Wolves offense continued with a 4-2 run to bring the score to 17-12.  DelVal's offense began to gain momentum with an Emma Helverson kill starting off a 3-0 run to make it a two-point game, 17-15. The teams held an even 8-8 edge through the rest of the set with a kill from the Golden Wolves ending it in their favor, 25-23.

DelVal offense put up a quick three with the Golden Wolves just as quickly tying the score at the top of the second set. The teams remained even until a 4-0 run from Alvernia put them ahead 14-9 to force an Aggies timeout. The Golden Wolves put up two more out of the timeout to take a 16-9 lead with the run ended by a Monqiue Smith kill to make it a 16-10 game. The Aggies struggled to get a run going putting up no more than two points at a time through the rest of the set with Alvernia holding the edge to take the set 25-17.

The Aggies went down by as many as nine points, 15-6, to start the third set. An attack error paired with a kill from Grace Kane kill started a 3-1 run for the Aggies to bring the gap down to five, 16-11. But, a 4-0 response from Alvernia widened the gap back to nine, 20-11, and forced an Aggies timeout. DelVal came out of the break putting up a quick three points thanks to back-to-back kills and a service ace to make it a 20-14 game. The Golden Wolves maintained their edge finishing out the set on a 5-3 run to win it 25-17.

Schneider led the Aggies with seven kills while Grace Wilson and Grace Kane led the defense with 13 and 12 digs apiece.
