DOYLESTOWN (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley men's basketball team used a balanced scoring effort with three players scoring in double figures and 11 Aggies overall finding the scorebook in a 74-43 win over FDU-Florham.
Each team hit three three-pointers over the first five minutes as the scored was tied at nine apiece. Teams continued to trade baskets as the game sat tied at 15-15 midway through the first half. FDU briefly took a 20-19 lead before the Aggies put together their biggest run of the first half. Tyriq Toney-Bailey scored five straight points before Justin Savage, Jordan Gombs and Ewens Lizima each made a layup to cap an 11-0 run over a 5:26 span. During the run, the Aggies shot 5-for-11 while the Devils shot 0-for-6 and turned the ball over three times. DelVal forced 12 turnovers in the first half while coughing up possession just six times as they led 32-22 at the half.
Teams played an even game for the first five minutes of the second before DelVal took control. Casey Caruso sparked an 8-0 Aggie run before Francis Robles Montas followed up with a longball of his own. Godly Marc capped the burst with a layup to extend the Aggie lead to 45-27 with 13:44 left.
The Devils hung around over the next six minutes and trailed by 16 with 7:30 left. From there, DelVal knocked down three consecutive triples, two straight from Toney-Bailey and one from Casey Caruso, before Justin Savage capped an 11-0 run to balloon the lead to 27. The Aggies outscored FDU-Florham in the second half 42-21 and outshot the Devils 47% to 29%. Over the final 20 minutes, DelVal went 7-for-15 from deep while holding FDU to just 1-of-15 from beyond the arc.
Justin Savage and Tyriq Toney-Bailey tied for a game-high 14 points for the Aggies while Casey Caruso was the third Aggie in double figures with 12. Ewens Lizima had a game-high six assists and four steals while Jordan Gombs led the Aggies with eight rebounds.
DelVal outrebound FDU-Florham 47-32 and won the turnover battle 21-14.
The Aggies are back in action Saturday, January 21st at 3 p.m. for a MAC Freedom matchup against King's.
