Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Falls at Wilkes After Slow Start

WILKES-BARRE (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley men's basketball team fell behind by 11 at halftime and could never climb back into the game, as the Aggies dropped a MAC Freedom contest, 73-62, at Wilkes.

After the Aggies (7-9, 2-5) fell behind 12-7 four minutes in, an 8-0 propelled the visitors to a 15-12 lead. DelVal held a one possession lead over an eight minute span until the game was tied at 26-26 with five minutes left in the first half. From there, the Colonels (9-7, 4-3) rattled off an 11-0 run before closing the half on a 14-3 spurt to lead 40-29 at the break.

Wilkes shot 51.7% over the first 20 minutes while the Aggies struggled at just 31%.

Justin Savage opened the second half with a triple for two of his 11 points, but Wilkes answered with a pair of long balls to push their lead to 14, their largest of the game to that point. A quick 6-0 run brought DelVal right back to within eight before they eventually trailed by seven with 12:57 left in the game. The Colonels took control right back with a 9-2 run to push their cushion back to 14 with 9:32 left. Trailing by 12 with six minutes left, Casey Caruso scored five straight to once again close the gap to seven with 3:15 remaining, but the Aggies would get no closer, as Wilkes closed the game out with a 73-62 win.

Each team knocked down ten three pointers in the game while Wilkes outrebounded DelVal 45-30, including 12-7 on the offensive glass.

Tyriq Toney-Bailey scored a game and career-high 19 points for the Aggies with four three pointers. Justin Savage added 11 points while Casey Caruso scored ten.

The Aggies return to action Wednesday, January 18th for a home MAC Freedom contest against FDU-Florham at 6 p.m.
