RADNOR (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team opened the 2022 season with a thrilling 1-0 victory on the road at non-conference foe Cabrini University on Saturday.
A pair of seniors put the Aggies on the board in the 22nd minute as Thomas Fitzsimmons fed a ball in to the box for Dan Arone who made a run to the near post, fought off a defender, and tucked a right footed shot passed the keeper for what would prove to be the game-winning tally.
Sophomore keeper Andrew Roberto sealed the victory in the 83rd minute when he stoned a penalty kick attempt from Nick LoBiondo. LoBiondo blasted his right foot attempt to the left side of the goal, but Roberto dove across and punched it away. The rebound caromed back to LoBiondo who tried to beat Roberto to the other side but once again the keeper was there to punch the ball over the cage and keep it a 1-0 game.
DelVal's Jack Heery relieved Roberto at keeper after the penalty kick save and made two saves down the stretch to help preserve the victory.
The Aggies will look to make it two in a row on Tuesday night when they host Scranton in the 2022 home opener at James Work Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
