Men's Soccer Wins Second Straight Road Game With Shutout At Valley Forge

PHOENIXVILLE (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team scored twice in five minutes, late in regulation, to earn a 2-0 win over the University of Valley Forge and its second non-conference victory in the last four days.

The Aggies finished the three-game road stand 2-1 and improved to 3-2 overall while the Patriots fell to 1-3 overall.

After the first 45 minutes, DelVal held an 11-8 in shots, but shots on goal were an even five apiece. Valley Forge held a 2-1 advantage in corner opportunities at the break.

The action was back and forth in the second half until the Aggies broke the scoreless tie in the 74th minute. Michael Maxwell was subbed in in the 73rd minute and made had an immediate impact as he took a pass from Brandon Fornwall and found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal. For Fornwall, it was his second point in as many games and his first career assist.

Less than five minutes later, DelVal earned a corner kick and Thomas Fitzsimmons found Bennett Nordhoff to make it a 2-0 game with less than 12 minutes left in regulation. It was the first goal of the season for Nordhoff and the second assist for Fitzsimmons.

Keeper Andrew Roberto fought off two shots down the stretch to preserve the shutout as he finished with nine saves in the game. Nordhoff and Fitzsimmons led the offense with two shots on goal.

The Aggies will return home for the first time in 15 days when it takes on Albright College next Tuesday, September 27 at 4 p.m.
