Women's Soccer Plays To 1-1 Draw At Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie on the road at non-conference foe Bryn Athyn College under the lights on Wednesday night.

The Aggies moved to 2-2-1 on the season while the Lions now sit at 2-1-1 overall.

It was a hard fought game from the beginning, but it was the home team that held a 4-0 advantage in shots on goal in the first half. DelVal registered four shots, but none on target and each team was awarded one corner opportunity.

Starting keeper Olivia Sherwood stopped all four shots sent her way in the first half and the game remained scoreless at the break.

Just five and a half minutes into the second half, Bryn Athyn was awarded a penalty kick after and Ashley Rivera made no mistake as she deposited her fourth goal of the season to break the scoreless tie and give the Lions a 1-0 lead.

Less than eight minutes later the Aggies responded as Marley Bramsway sprung Jess Williamson with a nice through ball down the right side and Williamson maneuvered around a pair of defenders before sliding a left footed shot passed the keeper for her third goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

Two yellow cards and five fouls were assessed in the final 30 minutes as the pressure to break the tie mounted, but neither team broke through and the 1-1 draw was final.

Caroline Hipple was credited with a team-high three shots on goal and Williamson followed with two on goal and six shots in total. Sherwood made four saves before being relieved by Viola Anderson who allowed one goal and made four saves in the second half.
