BRYN ATHYN (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 defeat at non-conference foe Bryn Athyn College on Wednesday evening.
The Lions (1-3) held a narrow, 8-6, edge in shots on goal for the game, but it was the Aggies (1-2) that had the better of the corner opportunities at 7-5.
Bryn Athyn scored the first goal of the game 13 minutes into regulation when Owen Ovecka beat the keeper on an unassisted tally for his first goal of the season.
DelVal answered in the 28th minute when
Andrew Grunwald sprung
Aaron Osborne who was able to find the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. It was Osborne's first goal of the season and Grunwald's first assist.
Just three and half minutes later, the home team answered when Mike Carmody picked up an assist on Enrico Romano's first goal of the season. The Lions took a 2-1 lead into the halftime break.
Shots on goal were 4-3 and corners were 4-2 in favor of the home team after the first 45 minutes.
Out of the break, Romano netted his second of the night off a pass from Haris Khan to extend the Bryn Athyn lead to 3-1 in the 52nd minute. DelVal had seven shots and three corner kicks the rest of the way as the controlled pace, but could not find the net as the Lions held on for the victory.
Dan Arone led the Aggies with five shots, one on goal, and
Bennett Nordhoff followed with four shots and two on goal.
Andrew Roberto played all 90 minutes in net and made five saves.
