Baker’s Early Goal Propels Aggies to 1-0 Season Opening Win Over Cairn

DOYLESTOWN (PA)--- Gillian Baker scored the lone goal for the Delaware Valley University women's soccer team just a minute and a half into the game to lift the Aggies to a 1-0 win over Cairn in their season opener.

The win was head coach Ben Wilson's first of his career in his first game as head coach.

After an early shot attempt from Cairn in under a minute, the Aggies quickly put together an attack of their own. Jess Wililamson earned possession over midfield and made a perfect pass to a running Baker upfield. With the ball at her feet behind the defense, Baker buried a shot past the keeper to give DelVal a 1-0 lead.

The Aggies continued their pressure for the remainder of the first half, outshooting the Highlanders 7-3 over the first 45 minutes.

DelVal remained in control for the remainder of the game, again outshooting Cairn 10-2 in the second half.

Olivia Sherwood made three saves in net for the Aggies to pick up her sixth career shutout.

The Aggies return to action Saturday, September 3rd at 6 p.m. on their home turf against Manhattanville.
