Men's Lacrosse Celebrates Seniors, But Drops Home Contest To Arcadia

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team honored its 10 seniors before its final home Saturday game of the year, but came away on the wrong end of a 17-5 final as visiting Arcadia University claimed victory in the annual Battle for the Bucks-Mont Hammer rivalry game.

The Knights improved to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in league play while the Aggies dropped to 3-9 and 1-3. There have been eight installments of the young rivalry game and Arcadia owns a 5-3 mark including wins in the last three meetings.

DelVal honored Tony Aguayo, Nick Bogdan, Chris Dearden, Michael Florig, Brandon Keller, Sean Mylod, Ben Napieralski, Tom Palazzo, Francis Rose, and Lucien St. Onge with a ceremony before the game. The team expressed its gratitude for their commitment and contributions to DelVal Men's Lacrosse.

In this game, the Knights opened up a 3-0 lead after five minutes of play with unassisted tallies from three different players.

On their first man-up chance of the afternoon, the Aggies answered when Tre Williams ripped his first of the day from 10 yards out to make it a two-goal game with 9:26 left in the first.

Arcadia countered with a man-up goal of its own less than three minutes later and went on a 5-0 run to open up an 8-1 lead early in the second quarter.

Williams scored his second man-up goal of the game with 8:41 left in the first half, but the Knights closed the half with two goals in the final five and half minutes of the half to take a 10-2 lead at the break.

Arcadia's lead ballooned to 15-2 early in the fourth and they held DelVal to three goals in the second half to secure the 17-5 victory.

Williams finished with three goals to lead the Aggies and Napieralski matched his point total with a goal and two assists. Florig, the senior long pole, netted his first career goal in the fourth quarter when he blasted one from straight away. He added five ground balls and a caused turnover to his totals. Luke Kelchner pitched in three ground balls and two caused turnovers and keeper Jim Murphy made 18 saves and corralled six ground balls.

Arcadia had 12 different players register a point and Timmy Fyock earned the win in goal after making 11 saves and allowing two goals in three quarters of work.

DelVal will take on Hood College at home next Saturday at 1 p.m. before returning to conference play on Wednesday, April 20 at home against King's.
