Aggies Win 11-10 Thriller Over Hood At Home

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team got back to its winning ways with a thrilling 11-10 victory over visiting Hood College in a back-and-forth, non-conference affair.

The Aggies (4-9) got on the board first when Tre Williams set up Lucien St. Onge just 2:20 into regulation. The two teams exchanged goals over the next seven minutes of play and worked to a 2-2 tie.

DelVal regained its lead with three goals in the final three minutes of the first quarter, including one just before the buzzer when Tony Aguayo whipped a pass to Christopher Marren who blast one past the keeper from 12 yards out to make it a 5-2 game going into the second.

The Blazers (6-8) outscored the home team, 4-1, in the second to tie the score at 6-6 at the half. Hood held a 14-10 advantage in shots on goal, and a 10-3 edge in faceoffs, in the first half, and turnovers were 10 apiece.

In the third quarter, the Aggies regained their lead with two goals separated by just 45 seconds. Brandon Keller and Brett Ziegler got the goals and Nick Nardini and Marren earned the assists.

Hood responded again with two goals before the end of the third quarter to tie the game again, 8-8, after three.

In the fourth quarter, Ben Napieralski put DelVal on top just 2:42 in, but a minute later, Kyle Scott answered for the Blazers to tie it up again. The back-and-forth tempo continued as just over one minute later Ziegler set up Tre Williams to put the Aggies on top, 10-9, with 10:14 left in regulation.

Three minutes later, with 7:13 on the clock, Colby Gallagher pulled the game even for the sixth time with his goal off a feed from Rio Muldoon.

DelVal keeper Jim Murphy made two big saves down the other end and the Aggies capitalized in transition as Marren worked the ball to Ziegler who found a wide open Napieralski at the side of the net and he made no mistake in beating the goalie for the game-winning goal with two minutes left in regulation.

Murphy was called upon to make one more crucial save in the closing moments to secure the 11-10 victory. He finished with 13 saves and earned the win.

Ziegler led DelVal offensively with five points on three goals and two assists and Williams added two goals and an assist. Napieralski and St. Onge each scored twice, Aguayo picked up two helpers, and Marren finished with a goal and an assist.
