Smith Scores First Career Goal, But Stevens Outplays DelVal Women's Lacrosse

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – Visiting Stevens Institute of Technology raced out to a 12-0 lead before TJ Smith scored her first career goal for the Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team in a 20-3 setback in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play on Wednesday night.

Eight different players scored for the Ducks (11-1 overall, 3-0 MAC Freedom) during early run for that bled into the first 1:02 of the second quarter. Zoe Cook highlighted the run with a three goals.

Smith got the Aggies (1-8, 0-3 MAC Freedom) with her first career goal, an unassisted tally, 2:49 into the second quarter.

Stevens held a 17-1 lead at halftime and extended its advantage when Anna Velardi took a pass from Carly Walker early in the third and beat the DelVal keeper.

The Aggies got the next two tallies in the game from Gabby Borst and Susan Rawding who potted their fourth and sixth of the season, respectively.

The Ducks tacked on one more in the third and scored the only goal of the fourth for the 17-point victory.

Borst, Rawding, and Smith rounded out the scoring for the Aggies and Sam McCurry picked up an assist. Caroline Berg played all 60 minutes in goal and made 10 saves. Defensively, Ashley Chrencik caused three turnovers and scooped two ground balls.

Cook finished with a game-high five points to lead Stevens and Morgan Westerby added three goals.

DelVal will head back on the road Saturday for an 11 a.m. MAC Freedom contest at Arcadia University.
