HOBOKEN (Nj.) – The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team suffered a 23-4 defeat at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play on Wednesday night.
The Aggies (3-8, 1-2 MAC Freedom) scored the game's first goal on a man-up opportunity when Tony Aguayo found George Evanick for his second of the season 3:36 into regulation.
The Ducks (5-6, 3-0 MAC Freedom) scored the next four goals in a span of three minutes including three tallies from Jack Savarese to open up a 4-1 lead.
With five minutes left in the opening stanza, Travis Berman got on back for DelVal with his fifth goal of the year. Stevens countered with one more in the closing seconds of the quarter to take a 5-2 lead into the second.
The second quarter was all Ducks as they piled on nine goals to open up a 14-2 lead by halftime.
The Aggies got goals from Nick Bogdan and another from Berman in the second half, but Stevens outscored the visitors 9-2 to run away with the league victory.
Aguayo, Brandon Keller, and Michael Florig finished with one assist apiece for DelVal and keeper Jim Murphy made 20 saves in over 53 minutes of action.
Savarese led Stevens with seven points on four goals and three assists and David Bendis finished with a game-high three caused turnovers. Four players saw time between the pipes for the Ducks and combined for four saves.
The Aggies will return home for another MAC Freedom contest and the annual Bucks-Mont Hammer Rivalry game against Arcadia University at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Before the game, DelVal will honor its 10 seniors with a special senior day ceremony.
