DOYLESTOWN (PA)--- After trailing 8-6 heading into the ninth inning, the Delaware Valley University baseball team pushed two runs across to force extra innings, but would eventually go on to lose 12-8 in 11 innings to PSU-Abington.
The visiting Nittany Lions got the scoring started with four runs in the top of the fourth inning on just two hits. A wild pitch brought home the first run followed by an RBI single from Tim Petrucelli and a two-run double from Zach Morales.
The Aggies wasted no time to regain the lead, as the hosts scored five time in the bottom half of the frame. Timmy Lallis brought home the first run on an RBI fielder's choice. Two batters later, Kenny Tunison stepped up with the bases loaded and cleared the bases with a double down the left field line to even the score at 4-4. Jonathan Drews capped off the inning with an RBI double to center to give DelVal a 5-4 lead after three innings.
PSU-Abington quickly answered with an RBI double from Ryan McCarty to tie the game at 5-5. Zach Morales continued the scoring in the inning with a two-run double to put the Nittany Lions back in front 7-5.
A sacrifice fly from McCarty in the sixth extended the lead to 8-5.
The Aggies inched closer in the seventh when Andrew Panfile scored on an error.
Trailing 8-6 heading to the ninth, the Aggies loaded the bases with one out with two hit-by-pitches and a single. That brought up Jonathan Drews who laced a two-run single up the middle to tie the game at 8-8. DelVal then had first and second with one out, but couldn't push the winning run across.
After a scoreless tenth, PSU-Abington got some separation with four runs in the 11th on a two run double by Jaden Himmelreich and run scoring singles from Chase Swain and Ryan McCarty. The Nittany Lions would retire the Aggies in order in the bottom of the frame to seal the deal.
Hank Bielen picked up his fifth three-hit game of the season while Jonathan Drews went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a double for the Aggies.
Chase Swain, Justin Fogel, Ryan McCarty, Tim Petrucelli, Matt Crisci and Jaden Himmelreich each picked up two hits for PSU-Abington while Zach Morales had three.
The Aggies will finish their season with a three game MAC Freedom series this weekend against Misericordia. Game one of the series it tomorrow at Misericordia at 3:30 p.m.
