DALLAS (Pa.) –
Ethan Saxe was named the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Rookie of the Year as helped the Delaware Valley University men's golf team to a fifth place showing at the 2022 conference championship tournament. The Aggies posted a team score of 679 (+103) with a day one score of 339 and a 340 on day two.
The nine MAC Freedom teams played the two-day tournament at Huntsville Golf Club with a par of 72 and at about 6,500 yards.
Saxe, who fired a team-best 81 in the opening round, shot an 84 on Sunday to finish 21-over par and with the low round of any rookie. Saxe finished tied-13
th out of 45 competitors, and led all rookies in the field.
First-year
Austin Bach had a nice showing with rounds of 85 and 84 to finish four strokes behind Saxe with a two-day score of +25 and tied-17
th.
Junior
Jake Kinzer finished 19
th overall as he finished one stroke behind Bach with a 26-over par. Kinzer went low with an 83 on day one and shot an 87 on Sunday.
First-year
Mark Gates bounced back from a 91 on day one to shoot an 85 in round to and finish +32 overall for a tied-26
th place while sophomore
Robby Meredith shot a 90 and an 87 and finished one stroke behind Gates.
DelVal finished seven strokes behind Wilkes University and nine strokes out of third place in the team scoring. Stevens Institute of Technology claimed its second-straight MAC Freedom title with a team score of 11-over par. Ducks sophomore Gus Vickers earned top-individual honors with a two-day score of three-under par, as he fired a program record 66 (-6) on Sunday. Arcadia University finished second overall with a team score of 60-over and Misericordia University followed at +92.
