Narrow Defeat Caps Series Finale Doubleheader Loss For Baseball At DeSales

CENTER VALLEY (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team dropped a pair of Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contests at DeSales University on Saturday as the Bulldogs ran away with a 17-0 win in the opener and earned an 8-7 walk-off victory in the night-cap.

The Bulldogs (11-9, 5-4 MAC Freedom) scored 17 runs on 14 hits in the first game and hit three home runs. Starting pitcher Ian Kacergis held the Aggies (7-12, 1-8 MAC Freedom) to seven hits but only earned two strikeouts. His counterpart, DelVal starter Dalton Moore surrendered 10 runs, eight earned, on eight hits and four walks.

Garrett Zimmerman led the Aggies at the dish with a 2-for-3 effort.

Trevor Leamer paced DeSales with three hits, including a home run, three runs scored, and an RBI. Robert Lamm and Hunter Spalt each finished with two hits and a home run.

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs led 7-0 after three innings as Colin Trembley hit a solo home run to left in the second and Billy Scanlon drove in two with an RBI single in the first.

Shawn Eldridge gave DelVal a boost in the fifth with his first home run as an Aggie, a three-run shot to left field. DelVal allowed one base runner in the bottom of the frame and went back to work down four in the sixth.

The Aggies put runners at second and third with one nobody out and a run came in to score after a wild pitch. Pinch hitter Kenny Tunison came up next and drove home Black Ramos with a double down the left field line to make it a 6-5 game. Two batters later, Jimmy Kelly knotted the game at six apiece with a double to left.

DeSales worked out of a bases loaded jam to end the top of the sixth and regained the lead in the seventh with an unearned run after a failed pickoff attempt at first base.

DelVal went to the seventh trailing, 7-6, and was down to its final out with runners on first and second after a hit by pitch and an error. Eldridge was the batter and delivered again with his fourth RBI on a single that scored Panfile to tie the game at 7-7. The next batter struck out and the home team needed just one run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win.

After the first batter grounded out, Leamer hit a single up the middle and raised around to score after a Billy Scanlon double to the gap in right center.

Leamer finished 3-for-4 with three run scored and an RBI as DeSales finished with 12 hits.

Eldridge led the Aggies with a 2-for-4 effort including the home run and four RBI.

DelVal begins a stretch of six games in five days when it visits Rosemont College for a doubleheader scheduled for 3 p.m. on Wednesday
