Aggies Split Doubleheader with King’s Behind Zimmerman’s 10th Inning, Walk-Off Single in Game Two

DOYLESTOWN (PA)--- After the Delaware Valley baseball team's bats were held to just two hits in a 5-0 game one loss, the Aggies took game two with a walk-off single by Garrett Zimmerman in the tenth inning to win 7-6.

GAME ONE

King's (8-13, 2-9) struck first in the top of the first with a two-run homerun by Brandon Loner. A Chase Yochem RBI single in the third, a Andrew Steidler infield single in the fourth and a sacrifice fly by Loner in the seventh were all the runs that were scored in the game, as the Monarchs took game one 5-0.

Shane Beyer threw a shutout, allowing just two hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in the game.

Shawne Eldridge had the only two hits for DelVal (8-13, 2-9).

GAME TWO

After the Monarchs scored in the top of the first on a balk, the Aggies' bats woke up after a slow game one, plating five runs in the frame. Bobby Bright brought home a pair of runners with a two-run, two-out single to center. A third run came home on the play on a throwing error from center field. Garrett Zimmerman added two more runs with a two-run single of his own, giving the Aggies a 5-1 lead after the first.

Hank Bielen added on for the Aggies in the second, scoring Timmy Lallis with a sacrifice fly.

After King's scored a run in both the third and fourth inning to trim the deficit to 6-3, the Aggies were three outs away from closing out the win in the seventh. The Monarchs would not go away quietly however, as an RBI double by Zach Day and a two-run double from Brandon Loner tied the game up at six apiece. With runners on first and second with two outs, Cole Hosinger came on in relief to get out of the jam.

Both teams couldn't push a run across in the eighth or ninth innings.

In the tenth, after Bobby Bright led off with a single, Nick Koch advanced him to second with a sacrifice bunt. On the second pitch of his at-bat, Garrett Zimmerman lined a single to center to score Bright to win it for the Aggies.

Zimmerman finished 3-for-4 in game two with three RBIs and Bobby Bright went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Jonathan Drews added a pair of hits and a run scored.

Cole Holsinger, John Slover and Zak Clark each had scoreless outings out of the bullpen, with Clark picking up his first career win.

The Aggies will head to King's tomorrow to wrap up the three game series with a 3:30 p.m. start.
