WILKES-BARRE (PA)--- The Delaware Valley baseball team erased a five run deficit with a six-run sixth inning and broke a 7-7 tie in the top of the ninth to earn an 8-7 win over King's College and win their first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom series of the season.
The Monarchs (8-14, 2-10) struck first with an RBI single in the second. Two more King's runners crossed the plate in the third on a double from Zach Day to extend the lead to 3-0. A pair of sacrifice flies in the fifth gave the Monarchs their largest lead at 5-0.
The Aggies (9-14, 3-9) responded in a big way in the sixth, as Kenny Tunison, Blake Ramos and James Miskanic each came through with RBI singles to trim the deficit to 5-3. Timmy Lallis drew a bases loaded walk and Shawne Eldridge drove in Ramos with a single to left to even the score at 5-5. The final run of the inning came home on an RBI fielder's choice by Hank Bielen.
After a Kenny Tunison RBI single in the top of the eighth grew the lead to 7-5, the Monarchs pushed two runs across in the bottom half of the frame on two fielder's choices, tying the game at 7-7.
In the top of the ninth, Gage Ambruster led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second base with a bunt by Nick Koch. Shawne Eldridge came through with a two-out double to left field, putting the Aggies ahead 8-7.
The Monarchs threatened with two runners on in the bottom of the ninth, but Alex Crim picked up a strikeout to end the game.
Crim earned his second win of the season, firing two scoreless innings in relief.
Shawne Eldridge finished 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Kenny Tunison, Blake Ramos, Bobby Bright and James Miskanic each recorded a pair of hits for the Aggies.
DelVal will be back in action tomorrow for a non-conference game against Valley Forge at home.
