DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team opened its three-game Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom series at home against DeSales University, but came away on the wrong end of a 12-3 final score.
The Bulldogs (9-9, 3-4 MAC Freedom) scored two runs in the first and tacked on three more in the third to jump out to an early 5-0 lead.
The Aggies (7-10, 1-6 MAC Freedom) got two back in the bottom of the fifth, but left three runners on base and trailed 5-2 after five. Timmy Lallis earned an RBI in the frame with a single to center that scored Andrew Panfile.
DeSales answered in the next half inning with four runs on three hits including a bases loaded double from Gavin Zavorski that plated two. The Bulldogs added two more in the seventh on a two-run home run down the right field line by Billy Scanlon that made it a 12-2 game.
In the bottom of the seventh, Gage Ambruster hit an RBI double down the right field line that scored Hank Bielen and ultimately resulted in the 12-3 final.
Ethan Saxe suffered the loss on the mound with five earned runs allowed on six hits. Seven different players registered a hit for the Aggies.
Dillon Drew led DeSales with three hits, one RBI and one run scored and starting pitcher Ryan Rieber earned the win with five innings pitched, three strikeouts, and two earned runs allowed.
The two teams will finish the series tomorrow with a doubleheader at DeSales beginning at 3:00 p.m.
