Men's Golf Opens Spring Schedule At Golden Oaks

FLEETWOOD (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University men's golf team competed for the first time in the spring semester of the 2021-22 campaign and earned a sixth place finish out of eight teams at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Preview Tournament at Golden Oaks Golf Course on Saturday. The event was scheduled as a two-day tournament, but Sunday's bad weather forced the cancellation of day two.

The Aggies finished with a team score 350 (+62), seven strokes better than Albright College and 80 strokes ahead of last place Widener. York College (Pa.) came into the tournament ranked 15th in Division III and won the weekend event with a team score of 295 (+6). Golden Oaks played to 6,648 yards with a rating of 71.3 and a slope of 126 as the student-athletes also battled cold weather and high winds.

Sophomore Robert Meredith led DelVal with a 13-over round of 85. He was two-over through seven holes thanks to a par, birdie, start, and another birdie on the par-four sixth. On the last two holes of the front-nine, Meredith played to six-over par to make the turn and eight-over par (44). He bounced back on the back-nine with a five-over, 41, that included five pars. His round of 85 (+13) was good for 25th overall.

Junior Jake Kinzer finished second for the Aggies and tied-27 overall with a 15-over par, 87. Kinzer made four pars on the front and made the turn at six-over after firing a 42. On the back, he was just two-over after five, but finished the round going seven-over on the final four holes to card a 45 on the back-nine and 87, overall.

First-year Lucas Baldinger finished one-over Kinzer with a round of 88 (+16). After struggling to record a par on the front-nine, Baldinger started the back-end with three straight pars and a birdie and was even after five. He doubled the par-3 15th and finished the round bogey, par, bogey to end the day as he carded a four-over par (40) on the back-nine.

Fellow first-year Mark Gates was close behind Baldinger with an 18-over par (90) round that included birdies on holes two and eleven, and three pars. Gates made the run at seven-over par and played the back-nine to 11-over. Junior Ryan Foley rounded out the day for DelVal with a 27-over par round of 99. Foley carded two pars in consecutive order on holes 10 and 11 as he played the back nine to 13-over par, one stroke better than his front nine.

The Aggies will get back on the course at the Arcadia Invitational at Cedarbrook Country Club on Monday, April 4th.
