IMMACULATA (PA)--- The Delaware Valley baseball team got four stellar innings from starter Dalton Moore and four hitless innings in relief from Ethan Saxe, as the Aggies opened their season with a 6-2 win at Immaculata.
The win was the first in the career of first-year head coach Kyle Lindsay.
After each team went down in order in the first, the Aggies (1-0) put runners on first and second in the second inning after a walk and hit-by-pitch with one out. Immaculata (0-3) starter Jason Hughes was able to pick a runner off second base to help him get out of the jam.
In the bottom half of the frame, Josh Crowding led off with a double. Dalton Moore, making his first start for the Aggies, limited the Mighty Macs to just one run in the inning after a Hunter Hall RBI groundout.
DelVal got that run back in the top of third on a two-out RBI double by James Kelly to center field, scoring Andrew Panfile, tying the score at 1-1.
Immaculata took the lead back, 2-1, scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly.
The Aggies put their first three runners on base in the top of the fourth after a single by Hank Bielen, a hit-by-pitch by Jonathan Drews and a walk by Kenny Tunison. Garrett Zimmerman then grounded into a double play to score Bielen to tie the game at 2-2.
The scored remained tied until the sixth inning when Tunison lined a double to center. Timmy Lallis scored from second while Drews was caught in a rundown trying to score from first, giving the Aggies a 3-2 lead.
DelVal added on to their lead in the top of the seventh. After Shawne Eldridge led off with a double and Panfile was hit by a pitch, Gage Ambruster brought home Eldridge with a single through the left side to make it 4-2. Kelly then put down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third with one out. Immaculata brought in Michael Gama to face Lallis and Lallis delivered a two-run single to cap off a three-run seventh inning to extend the Aggie lead to 6-2.
The game remained 6-2 after eight innings when the game was called due to darkness.
In his first start with DelVal, Dalton Moore threw four innings allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out one.
Ethan Saxe earned the win in relief, firing four hitless innings while allowing two walks and striking out four.
First-year Gage Ambruster went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored from the lead-off spot.
Timmy Lallis had two hits in four at-bats with two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base.
