Aggies Honor Eight Seniors; Defeat Cheyney 90-57 to Close Out Regular Season

DOYLESTOWN (PA)---The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team honored their eight seniors prior to their final regular season game against Cheyney University, as the Aggies defeated the Wolves 90-57.

The eight seniors honored pre-game were Matt Paulus, Edward Jones, Dariel Medina, Pernell Ghee, Nestor Diaz, Thomas Ibidapo, Ryan Black and Jordan Tucker.

After a back and forth first four minutes, the Aggies (15-9, 10-6) trailed 11-9.  They grew their lead to 24-19 midway through the first half before taking control of the game. They used a 13-0 run that saw five different Aggies score a basket, led by four points from Thomas Ibidapo. They forced Cheyney into six turnovers during that stretch which lasted 5:01. Edward Jones then scored six points in the final 2:46 as part of a 9-3 Aggie run, as DelVal led 46-25 at the half.

DelVal shot 43% in the first half, while Cheyney shot 35%. The Aggies defense helped them get out to the big halftime lead, as they forced the Wolves into 17 first half turnovers while committing only two turnovers themselves.

It was all Aggies from the onset of the second half, as they started with a 7-0 run with a Matt Paulus three pointer and back-to-back Pernell Ghee dunks. DelVal grew their lead to 76-40, their largest of the game, after a Richard Thomas three pointer. With 6:06 left in the game, Josh Pierre scored his first career points after a put-back off an offensive rebound.

Every Aggie found themselves in the scoring column, as all 14 players saw playing time.

DelVal won the turnover battle 23-7 and out-rebounded the Wolves 47-36. They shot 46.9% and held Cheyney to 31.4% from the field.

Thomas Ibidapo led the way with 13 points and six rebounds, while Pernell Ghee scored 12 with seven rebounds. Edward Jones and Dariel Medina were the final two Aggies in double figures, as they each scored ten points.

The Aggies will await their MAC Freedom playoff matchup, as they will either travel to Arcadia or host Lycoming on Wednesday, February 23rd. DelVal will be either the fourth or the fifth seed.
