DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball 2021-22 campaign came to an end Wednesday night in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom championship quarterfinals as visiting number five seed Lycoming College cruised to a 55-41 victory over the number four seed Aggies.
DelVal ended the year 15-10 overall and 10-6 in league play. The Warriors matched the Aggies mark in conference action and improved to 16-10 overall.
Each team got out to a slow start as they combined for only 14 field goals with just one 3-pointer apiece in the first half. The Aggies were an even 30% from the field while the Warriors shot a tick less at 29.6%.
Lycoming held a 22-11 edge in rebounds in the first half and converted five second chance points which proved to be the difference as the Warriors held a 20-15 lead at the break. Ghee led DelVal with seven points in the first half and DeAundre Manuel was 3-3 from the field for nine points to lead the visitors.
The Warriors began the second half on a 9-3 run to open up a double-digit lead, 29-18. The Aggies countered with an 8-2 run in less than a minute of play behind five points from Ghee and a trey from Thomas Ibidapo to make it 31-26.
Matt Ilodigwe answered at the other end with a 3-ball of his own and Manuel scored a layup that sparked a 9-1 run for the Warriors who opened up a 40-27 lead with under 10 minutes to play.
Matt Paulus and Ghee converted layups to get it back to a nine-point margin, but it was too little too late as the visitors outscored the Aggies 15-10 over the final five minutes to secure the 55-41 victory and advance to the conference semi-finals where they will play at number one DeSales on Friday night.
Ghee, a senior, led DelVal with 14 points and Godly Marc had six rebounds to go with seven points. Ibidapo poured in eight points and Paulus added seven with five rebounds. Nestor Diaz grabbed four rebounds to go with three steals and two blocked shots.
Ilodigwe led all scorers with 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Harward grabbed a game-high 13 boards to go with four steals and three blocked shots. Manuel finished with 13 points and five rebounds and Steven Hamilton reached double figures with 10 points.
