Men's Hoops Earns 71-55 Road Victory At Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN (Nj) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team placed four players in double-figure scoring en route to a 71-55 road win at Rutgers-Camden in non-conference play on Wednesday night.

The Aggies got back to .500 for the season at 2-2 while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 1-3.

DelVal raced out to a 16-1 lead 8:35 into the game as Tyriq Toney-Bailey connected on a pair of three's and Rasheem Dearry added one of his own. Rutgers-Camden clawed back with an 11-3 run over the next five minutes to make it 19-12. DelVal was able to keep them at bay and take a 26-20 lead into the halftime break.

Toney-Bailey led the Aggies with 10 points in the first half as seven different players scored for the team. DelVal forced eight turnovers in the stanza while committing just three.

The Scarlet Raptors got a layup to start the second and cut their deficit to just four, 26-22. Moments later, another trey by Toney-Bailey sparked an 18-4 DelVal run that extended its lead to 48-31 with 12:31 left in regulation. Justin Savage led the Aggies during the run with eight points and the team forced four turnovers and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

DelVal led by as many as 20 after Ewens Lizima setup Savage from beyond the arc to make it 62-42 with just over five minutes to play, and the team never looked back as it cruised to the 71-55 victory.

Tony-Bailey finished 4-of-6 from deep for a team-high 18 points to go with a block and a steal. Dearry and Savage followed with 13 points and four rebounds a piece with Savage adding a block and a steal. Godly Marc reached double figures with 11 points and Lizima added six rebounds, three assists, and three steals with four points.

As a team, the Aggies shot 44.4% from the field and 35% from beyond the arc while the defense forced 20 turnovers. Rebounds were deadlocked at 36 apiece.

Jaymes Savage led the home team with 13 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and three blocked shots and Jordan Trusty-Smith scored 14 points.

DelVal will travel to take on Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip.
