Men's Hoops Falls To Jersey City In Final Day Of Rinso Marquette Tournament

ANNVILLE (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team wrapped up its showing at the Rinso Marquette tournament hosted by Lebanon Valley College with a 70-60 setback to New Jersey City University on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies fell to 1-2 on the young season while the Knights improved to 1-1.

DelVal got three consecutive treys in the first half from Rasheem Dearry, Richard Thomas, and Francis Robles Montas to get out to a six-point lead, 17-11, with 7:19 left in the half. Jersey City clawed back with a 9-2 run over the next five minutes to regain the lead, 20-19. A bucket in the paint by Zoelin Pair and a three-pointer from Casey Caruso got the Aggies back in front and helped the team take a 26-24 lead at the break.

DelVal maintained a four point lead with 14 minutes left in regulation before the Knights went on a 13-2 run to open up a 53-46 lead with 8:15 to play. A Caruso three point moments later got it back to a four-point game, but that's the closest the Aggies could get the rest of the way as Jersey City escaped with the 10-point victory.

Dearry led DelVal with 15 points and seven rebounds on 4-of-9 shooting from the field while Caruso and Thomas each finished with eight points and combined for seven rebounds.

The Knights were led by a 22-point showing from Jason Battle and three other players that reached double-digit scoring including Ryan Savoy who finished with a double-double of 14 rebounds and 10 points.

The Aggies continue their stretch of five road games to open the season when they travel to Rutgers Camden on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
