ANNVILLE (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley men's basketball team fell behind by 17 with 11 minutes to play and forced overtime before eventually falling to Lebanon Valley, 84-70, in their first game of the Rinso Marquette Tournament.
The Aggies began the game on a 14-4 run to take a ten point lead five and a half minutes in. After the Dutchmen responded with 12 straight to take a 16-14 lead. Both teams struggled from the field for the remainder of the first half, as Lebanon Valley took a 28-25 lead into the break.
After Richard Thomas hit a triple to start the scoring in the second half, the Dutchmen went on an 18-2 run to break open their largest lead of the game, 46-30, with 13:09 left. With 10:51 to go, LVC again took their largest lead, this time 53-36.
Godly Marc got the Aggies back on track with a jumper and Rasheem Dearry followed with a three pointer and a jumper. A Justin Savage free throw capped an 8-0 DelVal run to cut the lead to nine with 8:44 left. LVC kept DelVal at arms length, holding a 64-53 lead with 6:32 left.
Casey Caruso pulled the Aggies to within eight with a triple with under six minutes left. After a Dutchman free throw, buckets by Zoelin Pair and Dearry brought DelVal to within five with 3:50 to play. A minute later, Justin Savage knocked down a triple and on the next possession, Ewens Lizima connected on a layup to even the score at 65-65 with two minutes left. Richard Thomas then came away with a steal on the next LVC possession to lead to a Lizima layup to give the Aggies their first lead, 67-65 with 1:59 left, since they led 17-16.
The Dutchmen would hit two free throws just seven seconds later to even the score at 67-67. Neither team could muster up any offense for the remainder of the half, sending the game to overtime.
The extra frame belonged to LVC, as the hosts were a perfect 6-6 from the field and outscored DelVal 17-3 to win 84-70.
In his first collegiate game, Rasheem Dearry led the Aggies with 18 points in 17 minutes.
Godly Marc and Justin Savage each added 12 points, with Savage pulling down seven boards and coming up with three steals.
Zoelin Pair finished with a game-high 18 rebounds, 12 of which came in the first half.
The Aggies will be back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. against New Jersey City University in the consolation game of the Rinso Marquette Tournament.
