WILKES-BARRE (Pa.)--- With the score tied at 1-1 with just under 30 seconds left, the Delaware Valley men's soccer team was awarded a penalty kick and senior Dan Arone buried it to complete a come-from-behind 2-1 win at King's.
The win marked the fifth in the Aggies' last six games and moved them to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in MAC Freedom play.
After the team's played a scoreless first half, King's (4-6-2, 0-2-0) struck first on a goal by Dylan Domchek to put the Monarchs ahead 1-0 with 25 minutes remaining. The Aggies quickly answered just over two minutes later as Thomas Fitzsimmons lined up to take a corner. From the right of the goal, Fitzsimmons curled home a goal directly off the corner to even the score at 1-1 with 23:30 remaining.
Neither team was able to take a lead over the next 23 minutes, but with 24 seconds left, Monarchs' goalkeeper Jake Forst was given a yellow card for shoving Aggie forward Danny Henson to the ground, resulting in a penalty kick for DelVal.
Head coach Chris Zirpoli turned to senior Dan Arone for the penalty kick and with Forst diving left, Arone buried his third goal of the season in the left corner to put the Aggies in front 2-1. King's generated a corner kick with four seconds left, but the DelVal defense held strong to preserve the win.
The win snapped a 12 game losing streak for the Aggies against King's, giving them their first win over the Monarchs since 2008.
Andrew Roberto finished with nine saves in goal for DelVal to earn his sixth victory in net this season.
The Aggies will look to make it two in a row as they return to Doylestown to host FDU-Florham in a MAC Freedom contest on Saturday at 6 p.m.
