Keagle Scores Two As DelVal Field Hockey Defeats Drew 2-1 At Home

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University field hockey team got back to its winning ways with a 2-1 home victory over non-conference foe Drew University under the lights on Tuesday.

The Aggies improved to 4-7 overall while the Rangers fell to 4-5.

DelVal controlled the first quarter and the early parts of the second as they earned the only two corners and outshot the visitors 4-2. The Aggies broke the scoreless tie 3:33 into the second as TJ Smith found Sydney Keagle behind the defense and she tucked a shot inside the far post for the 1-0 DelVal lead. It was Keagle's second goal of the season and Smith's team-leading fourth assist.

With under two minutes left in the first half Keagle got her second of the night on a nice tip-in play from in close. First-year Kaylee Hartung slid a pass to Keagle in front of the net and the junior got just enough of it to tip it passed the keeper and make it a 2-0 game.

The Aggies stayed on the attack and earned four corners in the final minutes of the first half. Hartung had the best scoring chance in that stretch but her shot caromed off the post and stayed out of the cage.

DelVal had an 8-2 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corners, and it held the Rangers without a shot on cage through the first 30 minutes.

Drew got its first shot on goal early in the third quarter, but Alyssa Rudd was there to kick it away. The Rangers were able to get one passed Rudd with under four minutes left on a goal by Maxine Lloyd, but DelVal kept possession for the final three minutes to hold on for the win. The Aggie defense led by senior Sadie Strober who made a couple nice stops to keep the ball away from the cage remained stout the rest of the way.

Keagle finished with three shots on goal including her two tallies and Smith followed with two shots on target. Rudd played all 60 minutes in cage and made six saves.

The Aggies will get back to conference play when they welcome the Lycoming College Warriors to town on Friday.
