HOBOKEN (Nj.) – The Delaware Valley University volleyball team traveled to take on top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology on Tuesday night, but fell in three sets. The Ducks earned wins of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-22.
The Aggies (11-10, 1-6 MAC Freedom) had 22 kills with six aces of the three sets as a team while the Ducks (19-1, 7-0 MAC Freedom) recorded 40 kills and 10 aces.
DelVal went on a 5-0 run early in the first set to take a 7-6 lead, but the home team answered with an 11-2 run to pull away to a 17-9 lead. Late in the set, an ace by Gretta Schneider and a kill by Olivia Deffendall pulled the Aggies within four, 23-19, but it was too late as the Ducks came away with the first set.
In the third set, Cat Nemil sparked a 4-0 run with a kill and Grace Kane followed with two kills of her own to tie the set at 9-9. Five kills and two aces led Stevens to a 20-12 advantage and it never looked back as it secured the match in straight sets.
Six different Aggies registered a kill led by Deffendall's seven and Kane's six. Schneider finished with four kills and Victoria Tucker had three. Deffendall and Schneider each had two aces, Nemil dished out 16 assists, and libero Grace Wilson led the team with nine digs.
The Ducks got 14 kills from Riley Koehler and seven from Ava Smithing. Enkhsanaa Enkhbayar had 20 assists and seven digs and Bailey Axelrad had 15 digs with seven assists.
DelVal will conclude the regular season at Wilkes on Thursday, October 27 at 7 p.m.
