Women’s Volleyball Wraps Up 2022 Season With Victory at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team traveled to Wilkes University for their final match of the season and came back to Doylestown with a 3-1 win over the host Colonels.

In the first set, the Aggies (12-10, 2-6) raced out to a 12-6 lead. They continued to grow their cushion as they lead 18-9 and eventually 23-15. Wilkes didn't go away quietly however, as the Colonels (2-6, 7-20) scored six straight to close the gap to 23-21. DelVal held off the final push, as Emma Helverson picked up one of her nine kills on the night and Wilkes committed an error to give the Aggies a 25-22 win in set one.

The second set saw DelVal playing from behind early, as Wilkes jumped out to an 11-7 advantage. With Wilkes leading 14-11, Gretta Schneider picked up a kill followed by three consecutive service aces, giving the Aggies a 15-14 lead. After the teams went back and forth seeing the scored tied at 20-20, Wilkes went in front 22-20. The Aggies scored the next four points before eventually taking the second set 25-23.

After DelVal lead 4-1 early in the third set, Wilkes took control, as they went on a 9-1 run to lead 10-5. With the score at 14-10 Colonels, the hosts scored six straight, growing their cushion to 20-10 before winning the set 25-14.

Both teams were unable to generate a lead larger than three points early in the fourth set until the Aggies used a 5-1 run to lead 14-8. Wilkes fought back to cut the deficit to 16-14, but three straight Aggie points grew the visitors lead to 19-14. DelVal kept the Colonels at arms length the rest of the night, as they maintained their lead and wrapped up the night with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.

Grace Kane had a career-high 16 kills in the match to lead the Aggies, while Cat Nemil finished the night with a team-high 35 assists, giving her 1,511 for her career. Grace Wilson led DelVal with 12 digs.

After finishing last year at 3-15, the Aggies quadrupled their win total under first year head coach Rachel Menin and finished the year at 12-10 and 2-6 in MAC Freedom play.
