DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University volleyball team honored its lone senior, team captain Cat Nemil before its final home match of the season against Saint Elizabeth on Friday night of homecoming weekend. The Aggies celebrated with a clean sweep of the Eagles and set scores of 25-7, 25-8, and 25-21.
DelVal improved to 11-9 overall and with two matches left in the season, the team secured its first record of .500 or better since the 2012 season.
Nemil, a four-year starter at setter for the Aggies has produced 1,450 assists including a career-best 562 this year. Additionally, she has racked up 590 digs, 73 kills and 59 aces in her career.
Tonight, the Aggies had 32 kills and just 15 errors in the three sets compared to only 14 kills and 14 errors for the visitors. In addition, DelVal registered a season-high 18 service aces as a team and three blocks.
Nemil had a match-high 26 assists with three digs, a block and a kill while Olivia Deffendall notched 12 kills and two aces. Sophomore Emma Helverson had a career-high eight service aces to go with two kills and Alexandria Engelmeyer had five kills with a block and an ace. Grace Kane and Victoria Tucker each had three aces with Tucker adding two blocks and Kane picking up eight digs. First-year Kai Logan came off the bench and notched three kills and two digs and fellow rookie Emily Yun had four digs.
For the Eagles, Onye Bosco had eight kills and six digs and Kristina Ashton had 14 assists with 10 digs. DelVal returned every serve cleanly and did not allow an ace.
The Aggies will finish the regular season with two road conference games beginning at Stevens Institute of Technology next Tuesday at 7 p.m. and culminating at Wilkes on Thursday (Oct. 27) at 7 p.m.
