Field Hockey Drops Tough Battle to King’s

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley field hockey team welcomed King's College to their home turf for a game that had major MAC Freedom playoff implications on the line and the visiting Monarchs were able to come away with a 2-0 win.

From the start, both teams played an evenly matched contest. The Monarchs (6-8, 3-2) were able to strike first off the stick of Sara Whitesell with 5:29 left in the first to give King's a 1-0 lead. DelVal (6-8, 2-3) outshot King's 4-3 in the first quarter.

In the second, the Aggies ramped up the offensive chances, putting four shots on goal, but King's goalkeeper Ellie Glatz turned away all four chances. The biggest save from Glatz came with 5:13 left in the half, when Ashley Birmingham attempted a penalty stroke, but Glatz dove to her right to keep the game at 1-0 heading into halftime.

Just over ten minutes into the third, Hannah Robbins extend the Monarch's lead to 2-0 after she ripped home a goal off a corner. King's pressured DelVal with eight shots in the third.

In the fourth, the Aggies continued to generate scoring opportunities, but Glatz made three more saves in the final stanza to preserve the shutout. She finished with ten in the game.

TJ Smith registered three shots on goal for the Aggies, while Birmingham and Sadie Strober each had two.

The win moves King's into fourth place in the MAC Freedom, while the Aggies sit in sixth. DelVal will look to bounce back as they host Misericordia on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
