Men's Soccer Closes Homestand With 2-0 Win Over Patriots

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team wrapped up its three-game home stand with a comfortable 2-0 victory over the University of Valley Forge in a non-conference bout under perfect conditions.

The Aggies improved to 2-1 on the year while handing the Patriots a loss in their season opener.

First-year Pierce Marks and junior Mike Janelli each found the back of the net less than a minute apart late in the first half. Marks got his team-leading second of the season from the middle of the box as RJ Alvarez headed a ball across the box and Marks beat the keeper to his right. For the first-year player Alvarez, it was his first collegiate point. Moments later, DelVal earned a throw in deep in Valley Forge territory and first-year Edwin Garcia found the ball inside the six and flicked it to Janelli who headed one over the keeper for the two-goal advantage with just over five minutes left in the half. The assist for Garcia was his first collegiate point and for Janelli it was his first collegiate goal.

The Aggies controlled the game from the opening tip. They finished with a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal and an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks. Quinn McCarty got his first start in goal and earned his first career victory with one save in the effort.
