GWYNEDD VALLEY (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team scored early and often on its way to a 5-1 non-conference triumph at Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday afternoon.
It was the second win in a row for the Aggies who improved to 3-1 on the young season while the Griffins fell to 0-4.
Less than three minutes into the contest, sophomore Chase Strohecker scored his first career goal off a feed from Dan Arone. Still in the first 15 minutes of the contest, Strohecker picked up his third point of the day as he and Pierce Marks connected with Danny Henson to give DelVal an early 2-0 lead.
The Griffins got one back late in the 44th minute to cut the deficit in half, but with 11 seconds before the break, Matt Miller raced back the other way for a nice finish to make it 3-1 at halftime.
Strohecker scored again in the second half and was followed a minute later by Marks' team-leading third of the season. DelVal did not look back the rest of the way as it cruised to the 5-1 win.
The Aggies outshot the Griffins, 30-8, with a 14-3 margin in on-target shots. John Braun and Andrew Roberto split time equally in net. Braun made the only two saves the team needed and surrendered the lone goal.
Strohecker finished with a game-high five points on two goals and an assist and marks had a goal and an assist.
