SCRANTON (Pa.) -- Senior
Gillian Nardelli scored her third goal of the season in the fourth quarter for the Delaware Valley University field hockey team, but host Marywood University scored two in the second and never looked back on its way to a 5-1 non-conference triumph.
The two teams were evenly matched through the first 15 minutes with each putting four shots toward the cage and the Pacers (6-3) holding just a 3-2 advantage in corners. In the second, Marywood scored twice in a span of three minutes, 30 seconds with Angie Genter picking up both. She blasted one home off a scramble in front of the net and later scored on a deflection off a corner play. The Pacers had six shots on goal in the second while holding the Aggies (1-8) to just one as they maintained the 2-0 lead into the second half.
Genter setup Cydney Lahr to make it 3-0, but just 34 seconds later DelVal got it back to a two-goal game as
Jess Dixon found Nardelli off a corner opportunity. The Pacers responded with another two quick goals in the fourth to earn the home win .
Genter finished the game with three goals and two assists and Lauren Youngken had two helpers. Nardelli led the Aggies with three shots on goal and the lone tally while
Alyssa Rudd made 15 saves in the cage.
