GLENSIDE (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University women's volleyball team battled Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom newcomer Arcadia University on Wednesday night, but came up short in three sets as the Knights (8-6, 3-1) won, 25-15, 25-22, and 25-13, over the Aggies (2-5, 0-3).
Arcadia led by as many as 14-6 in the first set, but DelVal scored 9 of the next 13 points to pull to within three, 18-15. However, the Knights closed the set with a 7-0 run to take the 25-15 win and 1-0 lead in games.
Emma Helverson got the Aggies out to a 2-0 lead in the second with a pair of service aces. Later in the set, the Knights held a 10-7 lead before DelVal went on an 8-3 run to pull ahead, 15-13. Arcadia answered with 8 of the next 9 points, but the Aggies fired back with five-straight behind the serving of
Victoria Tucker to tie the game again, 21-21. The home team finished the set with a 4-1 run including a pair of kills by Nicole Dallara to secure the 25-22 win.Â
Early in the third set, first-year
Gretta Schneider scored two services aces to put DelVal up, 4-1. The home team answered with a 17-2 run to lead to a comfortable third set, and match, victory.Â
Caitlin Nemil had 13 assists, Schneider had 12 digs,
Olivia Deffendall totaled six kills, and Helverson led the way with three service aces. The Aggies totaled 17 kills and five aces as a team.Â
On the other side, Michelle Frank led all players with 13 kills and Grace Kraft was credited with 10 digs. The Knights had 43 kills and 12 service aces as a team.Â
