Women's Soccer Improves To 5-1 With Home Shutout

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – Rookie Jess Williamson scored three times and the Delaware Valley University women's soccer team earned its fifth shutout of the season in a 4-0 non-conference victory over visiting Penn State Abington on Wednesday night.

The Aggies continued a torrid start to the 2021 campaign and improved to 5-1 overall. The squad has not allowed a goal against in any of their wins this season. The Nittany Lions fell to 2-3-1 overall.

The game was in a deadlock until the 33rd minute when senior Serena Zilli sent a through ball behind the defense and Williamson was the first one to it. She walked in all alone and put a perfect shot off the right post and in to put DelVal up, 1-0.

Just over 10 minutes later, Williamson gathered the ball outside the box and ripped a shot off the right foot that went bar-down and into the net for a highlight reel goal, her second of the game. The Aggies held Abington to two shots on goal in the stanza and maintained a two-goal advantage at the break.

In the second half, DelVal scored two more times in a span of 83 seconds. In the 63rd minute, first-year Meztly Garcia sent a cross into the box and Rachel Dudek played it off a bounce and headed it home for her second goal of the season and 3-0 lead. Moments later, Zilli and Williamson hooked up again for Williamson's third of the night and 11th of the season. She leads all players in the Middle Atlantic Conference in goals and is among the leaders in all of Division III.

The Aggies finished with a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal for the game and had a 3-1 advantage in corner opportunities.

Keeper Olivia Sherwood made four goals in save to earn the shutout.
