MADISON (Nj.) – The Delaware Valley University field hockey team outshot host Drew University, but a pair of goals from Alexa Thomas fueled the home team to a 3-1 non-conference victory on Wednesday night.
The Rangers (1-4) got on the board less than five minutes into regulation when Thomas took a long pass from April Serratelli and tapped it into the cage. Drew held a 6-3 advantage in shots and a 2-0 advantage in corners and maintained the 1-0 lead through the first half.
Early in the second, Serratelli found Thomas again who deposited her second of the game from off the left post to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead. Trisha Dominick tacked on one more for the home team to put the game out of reach with 6:11 left to play.
DelVal (0-4) peppered the Drew cage with 13 shots in the fourth quarter and final broke through when senior Jess Dixon used an extra effort to score off her own rebound. The Aggies tried to chip away with five penalty corners in the final frame, but it was not enough as the Rangers held on for the 3-1 win.
Alyssa Rudd made 10 saves in the losing effort while counterpart Olyvia Jackson made eight at the other end. Dixon led the all players in the game with five shots on goal.
DelVal has another road contest on the horizon as it heads to Swarthmore College on Saturday to face the Garnet at 1 p.m.
