Baseball Drops Two At DeSales

CENTER VALLEY (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team visited Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe DeSales University for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, but it was the home team that outscored the Green and Gold, 21-3, for the day's sweep.

In the opener, the Bulldogs (9-1, 9-1 MAC Freedom) scored twice in the bottom of the first and got a grand slam home run in the bottom of the fifth from Sergio Diaz en route to a 10-2 win.

Zakaray Zgura got an RBI in the sixth frame with a bases loaded walk and Shawn Eldridge came around to score on a fielder's choice in the same inning.

In game two, DelVal opened the scoring in the first inning when Vinny Colavitti singled to left center field to drive in Eldridge and make it 1-0 after one.

First-year Nate Reed got the start on the mound for the Aggies and didn't allow a hit through the first two innings. The Bulldogs first hit came in the third on an infield single that loaded the bases, and a fielder's choice later drove home a run to tie the game at 1-1. Reed was able to limit the damage has he worked out of the jam with a ground ball double play and another ground out to the shortstop.

DeSales got to Reed in the fourth with back-to-back homeruns that made it a 4-1 game. DelVal was held off the board the rest of the way and the home team tacked on two more in the seventh and five in the eighth to run away with the doubleheader sweep.

Eldridge finished the day with three hits and two runs scored in the two games and Timmy Lallis was 2-for-4 in the nightcap.

These two teams will play another doubleheader, this time in Doylestown, on Monday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.
