DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team celebrated five of its seniors who played their last home regular season games, but did not get the desired result in a twin-bill against Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe Wilkes University.
The Colonels (14-12) defeated the Aggies (3-23), 9-0, in game one and took the nightcap, 18-3.
In between games, DelVal honored five seniors for their contributions to the program – Ryan Georgiadis, Mike Koslin, Will Mitchell, Brice Messick, and Zakary Zgura.
In game one, the Aggies were held to just two hits, both off the bat of first-year Ethan Saxe. They did work four walks and left five runners on base. Dakota George pitched a complete game with a strikeout, two walks, and eight earned runs against.
J.T. Hibschman led Wilkes to the win from the mound in the opener. He went seven innings allowing two hits and striking out five.
Mitchell and Zgura each had two hits and a run scored to lead the Aggie offense in game two. They picked up back-to-back singles in the bottom of the second and moved into scoring position after a bunt, but were stranded there as Wilkes maintained a 5-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Mitchell hit a pop fly into the wind that fell in the infield and Zgura followed with a double to right center. They both came around to score thanks to RBIs from Vinny Colavitti and Nick Koch, but the Colonels held a 10-2 lead, and cruised to the win.
The two teams will wrap-up the regular season tomorrow with a doubleheader at Wilkes beginning at 12 p.m.
