Women's Lacrosse Downed At DeSales

CENTER VALLEY (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team got eight points from three of its first-year players, but it was not enough as host DeSales University came away with a 22-7 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory.

The Bulldogs (3-5, 3-2 MAC Freedom) scored three times in the first three minutes of regulation, but the Aggies (0-10, 0-6 MAC Freedom) got two back with goals separated by just 23 seconds to pull within one. Belle Walls got her eighth of the season to get DelVal on the board, and fellow first-year Kyra McKeegan followed with her sixth of the season.

After DeSales scored the next two, senior Sabrina Butler netted an unassisted tally to make it a 5-3 game with 12:13 to play in the first.

Over the next 11 minutes, the Bulldogs used a 7-0 run to open up a comfortable 12-3 advantage. Just before the break, first-year Ashley Birmingham setup Kyra McKeegan for her second of the game to make it a 12-4 game going into the second.

Walls opened the second half with her second of the game just 43 seconds in, but DeSales scored the next two to maintain its distance. DelVal scored two of the game's next three goals with Kyra McKeegan setting up Walls for the first and her sister, Amanda McKeegan, for the second to make it 15-7 with just over 17 minutes left in the game.

The Bulldogs were able to shut the door the rest of the way as it finished the game with seven unanswered runs to secure the win.

Shannon Petrillo made her first start in goal and made 11 saves for the Aggies with three ground balls and a caused turnover. Kyra McKeegan finished with four points on two goals and two assists and added three ground balls and Belle Walls scored three times with three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Birmingham added an assist with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Marina Bradley led DeSales with eight points on five goals and three assists while Eilis McCall also scored five and added an assist for six points. Rachel Sheubrooks earned the win in net with seven saves.
