Baseball Falls At Home To Misericordia

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team played its second home doubleheader in as many days, but dropped both contests to perennial Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom powerhouse Misericordia University.

The Cougars (11-7) won the opener, 11-2, and took game two over the Aggies (2-16), 19-1.

Misericordia led 5-2 after two innings off four hits and two DelVal fielding errors. DelVal scored when Ethan Saxe singled through the left side and plated Hank Bielen who was aboard with a lead-off double. Bobby Bright drove in the other run with a sacrifice fly that brought in Vinny Colavitti.

The Cougars tacked on five more over the next two frames and added one in the seventh while keeping the Aggies off the board the rest of the way.

DelVal had seven hits in the game with Saxe going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Tyler Moody suffered the loss after going three innings with seven hits and three walks allowed.

Joe Valenti earned the win for Misericordia and struck out six batters in six innings. Lead-off hitter Garrett McIlhenney went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored as the guest racked up 12 hits as a team.

In game two, the Cougars led 13-0 after two innings and totaled 18 hits in the game en route to a comfortable 19-1 victory.

The Aggies had six hits led by a 2-for-3 effort from Jonathan Drews who scored the lone run of the game in the third inning off a sacrifice fly from Garrett Zimmerman.

Misericordia's Dalton Emerich led all players in the game with a 3-for-4 effort at the dish, four RBI, and a run scored.

Kyle Bailey suffered the loss on the mound and Nick Gillen earned the win.
